Kitchen herbs- Ginger

Ginger, the cheapest herb with wondrous propertiesThere has been a study showing correlation between some kitchen herbs and serious conditions like Alzheimer’s.

In fact, nature has so many exotic herbs with many healing powers, maybe its just that we do not know about some of these. And the few we knew we kept in our kitchen shelves and using them. We will talk about such kitchen herbs here:

Ginger: Its a popular flavoring herb and rightly qualifies for the rank of heavenly herb for the properties it possesses. In fact two small pieces of ginger herb works far better than OTC Dramamine 100 mg to cure travel sickness.

The volatile oils, oleoresins as well as the proteolytic enzymes, act as stimulants and trigger generation of digestive enzymes that ease the nausea and stomach irritations experienced during travelling.

Ginger finds its place in all religious books including The Bible and The Qur’an as taken by pregnant women to get away with the morning sickness and as a digestive herb after a meal.

Even the modern medicine attributes lot of healing powers to Ginger including the cholesterol-reducing properties. It helps in reducing serum cholesterol as well as the cholesterol that is stored in liver. Maybe that is why ginger was taken by our ancestors as a detox herb.

The volatile oils and oleoresins in the ginger are very stimulating and helps in circulation.

There is also an ageold belief that ginger delayed menstruation cycle in women and helped treat rheumatism.

The oleoresins extracted from ginger are phenolic and have anti-micorbial action and makes it a ready remedy at home for common colds, flu and coughs.

Add a slice of ginger to food and see how it adds wonderful aroma and taste to the food. Take it with tea or with honey everyday, check how much difference it can bring in you!
